WHO WE ARE

Do you want to know how the Bible applies to your life?
Are you looking for a Jesus-centered community of 6-12th graders and leaders?
Are you curious about how to live a life for Christ?

Our goal is to form life long disciples of Jesus. We work towards this goal by encouraging and equipping students to be and make disciples through studying and applying God's word, encouraging and welcoming each other in with the love that God first loved us with, and living their lives as ambassadors for Christ in every room they walk into.
We are called to be and make disciples
"Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you."
Matthew 28:19-20
We are told to encourage one another with the love that Christ first loved us with
"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
John 13:34-35
We are challenged to be ambassadors for Christ in every area of our lives
"So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us..."
2 Corinthians 5:20

What We are Learning
JONAH
Jonah is not too different from many of us today. He is a child of God and he is aware that he is part of God's great plan to redeem the world. But just like many of us so often do, he fails so stupendously—not just once, but multiple times! And yet, in God's mysterious ways, God still uses Jonah to accomplish His grand purposes. He doesn't cast him aside, but He continues to use this unlikely tool to craft His perfect masterpiece.

Meet the team.

Philip Beaver

Youth Minister
philip@northstarfamily.org

Philip has been the youth minister here since the summer of 2021 and is excited and humbled by what God has done, and continues to do at Northstar Youth. Before stepping into this role, he was a leader in his home church's youth group and on the summer youth team at Northstar. He met his wife, Emma, while they were in youth group and got married in 2020. Philip is passionate about reaching youth with the Gospel message and showing them how to live a life for Jesus no matter their age.

In addition to Philip and Livi, we have 10 volunteer youth leaders that help make Wednesday night youth groups happen and point students to Jesus! These volunteers are just as passionate about reaching the next generation and leading them in small group discussions to help students dive deeper into what God is teaching them.

Livi Marrin

Youth Ministry Assistant
livi@northstarfamily.org

Livi started attending Northstar in 2019 during her freshman year at Virginia Tech, and instantly fell in love with the community of believers here. A redirection from the Lord led her to start interning at the church, where she started considering full-time ministry. Having recently graduated, she is excited to continue serving and pouring into the body that has built her up by joining staff! She is a big coffee drinker and you’ll most likely find her at Bollo's in her free time chatting with all the locals and their dogs. Livi also loves long walks on the Huckleberry, weightlifting, writing punny emails, and making popcorn with her Whirley Pop.
